Makerfest Ahmedabad 2018

Makerfest, which was started by the Motwani Jadeja Family Foundation (MJFF) as an annual event attracting makers and tinkerers from across the country in 2013, has ended its journey in Ahmedabad. It will now continue in other cities in India. The 5th Maker Fest, organized by the Motwani-Jadeja Family Foundation took place from 5th-7th January, 2018 at the School of Engineering & Applied Science, Ahmedabad University. CEPT has been a part of the event since its inception.

In bidding farewell to Makerfest, CEPT University would like to acknowledge the contribution of its founder Ms. Asha Jadeja, for helping establish the FabLab at CEPT. Asha Jadeja, an alumna of CEPT University, has been championing and supporting entrepreneurs globally. She initiated the MakerFest, a platform that seamlessly brings together makers and innovators with varied backgrounds and from various parts of the country.

With a generous contribution of Rs. One crore, she helped procure the high-tech equipment to establish the FabLab at CEPT in January 2014. Along with the financial support and helping us get connected to the FabLab network, she also brought in Henry Skupniewicz, a young graduate from MIT to help us run the FabLab for the initial years. Henry helped kick start many of the activities that are now regular at our FabLab.

Since then, FabLab has been playing a key role in Education and Entrepreneurship. Education covers our efforts to expose and integrate cutting-edge techniques, tools and the culture of ‘making to learn’ into CEPT University curriculum. FabAcademy brings the latest learnings of MIT’s CAB to students who are working on their ideas, which are potential products. The FabKids program takes the most fundamental concept and belief that anyone can build almost anything into schools.

Entrepreneurship includes the startups and makers we have worked with to mainstream the culture of making into society. Various Events cover all the outreach we do to encourage the culture of making, of which, Maker-Fest is a biggest annual event.

This year too, FabLab CEPT hosted a stall that showcased various FabAcademy projects and a Clay 3D printer. Now the Clay 3D printer is permanently housed in Workshops. CEPT University welcomes students and professionals who may be interested in further work in this direction.

In the long run, FabLab CEPT aims to enable everyone to build almost anything. It is set up as a maker space for technological experimentation & innovation for CEPT affiliates, makers, researchers & community of creative thinkers. It provides access to knowledge, skills, tools and experiences that allow people to innovate.

CEPT University sincerely thanks, Asha Jadeja, for her generosity and contribution towards setting up of the FabLab at CEPT. CEPT University will design a plaque that acknowledges Asha Jadeja’s wonderful contribution.
